Pot Smoking Gold Medalist Snowboarder Ross Rebagliati Plans a Comeback in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

It was so much fun watching this guy compete the first time around when snowboarding in the Winter Olympics was a brand new thing. I'm so glad to hear he's got his sights set on competing here on his home turf in Whistler at the 2010 Winter Olympics. I'd love to interview him for this blog or to give him a blog on this site and get him talking about his training regimine on and off the mountain. Maybe we can do a podcast from the Whistler or Blackcomb gondola together Ross?

Rebagliati eyes 2010 Games gold “I’ve actually had 75 days this year on Blackcomb,” Rebagliati said this week. “I am back on my race board and I am gearing up for a comeback at the 2010 Olympics.” Snowboarding made its Olympic debut at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano and Rebagliati came home with the men’s giant slalom gold medal. Despite a controversy surrounding a positive drug test for trace amounts of marijuana in his system, Rebagliati was allowed to retain his medal. As a result, Rebagliati became one of Canada’s most recognized athletes.

I think it would be awesome to see Ross come back but the Idea that he is considering competing for another country is a damn shame someone should star a public opinion pole! and petition him to stay a canadian competitor after all the accusations in '98 Canadians stuck behind him!!!

Ross is not going to be competing for another country. The response was taken out of context.

Ross needs to build up points before he can race on the Canadian team. He has to start at the amateur level and work his way up point wise before he can compete on the World Cup Circuit. Even though he can beat the guys on the circuit now it doesn't matter, he has to start from the ground up again.

The reporter asked Ross is he couldn't build up the points in time and Canada would not let Ross race for Canada would he just not compete in 2010. Ross answered that he would do whatever it took to get to make it to the Olympics. The reporter later asked me questions about being American and then made it out like Ross was going to race for the States. It is completely FALSE. Ross would not dream of racing for any country other than CANADA!
